The Story of Our Logo
The turret with its multi-paned double-hung windows is iconic to the stately Victorian home long known as Green Pastures and located at the northern end of Main Street in the small New England town of Northfield, MA. Gazing toward the west and north, one sees the rolling hills of Massachusetts, Vermont and New Hampshire, colorful foliage, and yes, green pastures along the winding trail of the Connecticut River valley. In the early 1900s, it is reported that some guests, after a lovely and refreshing visit, wrote back to their hosts that it was if they had “laid down in green pastures” – referring to Psalm 23.
The three roof panels symbolize the Trinity, and clearly draw the eye heavenward as the three become one “cap” over all. The slight bow, or curve-line, in the profile is, in fact, part of the actual roof structure.
Twelve small panels in the upper windows suggest images of disciples, baskets of abundance, and tribes that gather for a whole Israel.
Today, Green Pastures Study Center, Inc., is dedicated to restoring a vital Christian presence throughout higher education, the arts and the culture at large by educating, encouraging and equipping those who desire to thoughtfully and winsomely address issues of faith and culture within their sphere of influence, whether it be in an educational institution, a place of ministry, a professional setting or the local community. We provide what C.S. Lewis refers to as the “hallway” by offering hospitality to those of all faith communions. Through the program of the C.S. Lewis Study Center, we seek opportunities to:
*Renew the Mind – “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Romans 12: 1, 2
*Refresh the Spirit – “He refreshes my soul.” Psalm 23: 3
*Redeem the Imagination – “Whatsoever things are true… honest… just… pure… lovely… and of good report; if there be any virtue, think on these things.” Philippians 4:8
